Web copy for FWA

The client

Future Water Association is a UK-based not-for-profit organisation transforming the future of the water sector. It connects utilities, innovators, contractors, regulators and policymakers – the UK water sector’s meeting place. Their mission is to accelerate collaboration and measurable impact across a complex and highly technical industry.

The project

FWA were relaunching their digital presence with a full redesign and development lead by Lucian at Lumin. Their existing website had grown organically over time, but was lacking clarity, coherence, and clear user journeys particularly for key conversion actions like membership, events registration, and sponsorships.

Our core objective was to clarify value, simplify information architecture, and write conversion-focused copy that supported FWA’s strategic goals.

Objectives:

  • Speak clearly to diverse audiences: from senior water utility leaders to innovators and emerging professionals.

  • Support conversion actions such as membership sign-ups, event registrations, sponsorship enquiries, and resource downloads.

  • Frame complex industry initiatives in a way that feels accessible, credible, and future-focused.

  • Tie messaging directly to FWAs mission and real value propositions: influence, collaboration, community, and innovation.

My approach:

  1. Audience-first messaging: I tailored language and tone and prioritised pathways for each audience segment. This ensured everyone arriving on the site could quickly understand FWA’s role and what’s in it for them.

  2. Structure and scannability: I crafted short, clear, benefit‑led copy supported by clear headings, CTAs, and microcopy to guide scanning and conversion.

  3. Clarity for complex initiatives: My copy translated complex concepts into plain language, preserving authority while removing barriers to engagement and understanding.

Results

The new site copy successfully reflects FWA’s leadership position in the water sector.

Immediate outcomes include:

  • A clearer, more compelling homepage narrative that explains FWA’s purpose and value in seconds.

  • Streamlined user flows for joining, event registration, and sponsorship enquiries.

  • High-impact copy for membership benefits that drives engagement and conversions.

  • Reduced cognitive load for complex sector concepts, making the site easier to navigate and understand.

From day one, her writing actively shaped the structure, flow, personality, and user journey of the site.

Amaia is thoughtful, sharp, and a genuinely great collaborator. If you’re planning a website project and want your copy done properly, she’s exactly the kind of copywriter you want involved from the very beginning. Plus, she's an actual nice, genuine human being. Website overhauls can be a long process... wouldn't you rather work with someone who makes it fun?
